Hopefully these invite your family and your candidate's sponsor into some deeper conversations and help scaffold the mindset that will maximize their learning this year!
Week of 9/20: “What’s Your Story God?”
Start the conversation at home with these or a couple questions of your own:
Think of someone important to you. Describe them as fully as you can while only mentioning 5 things about them.
What does a story need to include to make it good?
If you were to boil the story of salvation down to a few sentences, how would you tell that story?
If God is still adding to the story of salvation today, what do you think your role in that story might be?
Knowing your story is part of something bigger, what can you do this week to better prepare yourself for the end of that story?
“Your Story” Challenge: Take 10 minutes and outline the story of your life so far, your purpose here, and where you think your story is going.
Week of 9/13: "Why Am I Here?" and "What Makes Me Happy?"
Start the conversation at home with these or a couple questions of your own:
What makes you happy short term? What makes you happy for longer stretches of time?
Tell me about some of your hopes for the future, big or small.
What do you think your purpose is right now? What do you think your purpose will be when you grow up?
What sort of things last? What sort of things do you wish lasted longer?
If you were to really boil it down to a sentence or two, what is the core message of Christianity?
A story and a challenge: Fr. Scott-Vincent Borba, co-founder of E.L.F. Cosmetics, left the business and entered seminary after a realization that all his fame and fortune wasn't helping him feel any less empty inside. In an interview, he said he'd started asking himself "If this is what God created me for, is just to be hedonist, to make money and to live life and party and then repeat, why did he create me? Why did he create the human race?" He asked God to help him become the man he was created to be and started talking to a Spiritual Director to help him on that journey. He was ordained a priest on May 23rd, 2026.
Make a list of all the important things in your life. Then go through that list and note which ones can help you on your journey to heaven, and which ones might slow you down from reaching the goal of heaven (or stop it all together). Hang on to this list and think about how you might reprioritize the things that are important to you so that you have a smoother journey to heaven.
